Graduation project. Phytoremediation of phenol pollutants

REMOVAL OF PHENOLS FROM WASTEWATER USING PLANT PEROXIDASES. TOWARDS AN ENZYME-BASED PHYTOREMEDIATION. This is the subject of the end year graduation project, presented by Saida Assaidi and Toufiq Shit under the supervision of Pofessor M. Baaziz, Cadi Ayyad University, Marrakech, Morocco. The huge amount of pollutants derived from industrial activities represents a threat for the environment and the ecologic equilibrium. Phenols and halogenated phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, .. are among the most important pollutants. Peroxidases are involved in the oxidation and the polymerization of pollutants, such as phenols. The importance of peroxidases in the detoxification of polluted environments relies on their capability to catalyze the oxidation of a wide variety of organic and inorganic compounds at the expense of peroxide. Experimental part used date palm and Atriplex plants
