A new Quinnipiac poll shows that the anti-mask policies of Republican Florida governor Ron DeSantis are hugely unpopular - even among Republicans in Florida. The problem he has is that he is too stubborn and egotistic to admit that he's made massive mistakes, and he's actually continuing to double down on these policies that are universally despised. If his Democratic opponents want to win, they need to start capitalizing on his failures RIGHT NOW. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

The latest polling data from Quinnipiac has some really damaging news for Florida's Trump loving Republican governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis, as we all know, has overseen one of the largest explosions of COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths here in the United States in recent months. But instead of doing something to actually help slow the spread in his state, he is actively trying to punish individuals, especially school boards, who try to protect children from the COVID virus. And the latest poll numbers show that a shocking amount of people in this state are unhappy with these decisions, including by the way, a majority of Republicans. Here's some numbers for you. 60% of Florida voters support school mask mandates while just 36% are opposed. DeSantis' policy of cutting off salaries from school teachers who defy his mask mandate ban, meanwhile, is even more politically toxic for the governor as just 25% say the policy is good, while 69% say that it is bad.
In fact, even a majority of Republican voters who are the most opposed to school mask mandates do not support withholding payment from school administrators who enact mask mandates. We've already seen other polls come out, showing that DeSantis who again, five months ago was cruising to an easy re-election in spite of his bungling of COVID. But now things are different. His Democratic challengers are polling even with him. The public doesn't like his policies here. Now the question is, can this anger carry itself all the way through November of 2022? Can it be sustained for almost 15 months in order to vote this guy out of office? That's a tall order and it's not an order that I'm sure the residents here in Florida are prepared to take. I just don't see them, I don't see them doing that. So it is what it is. These are great poll numbers for Democrats right now. It shows that yes, the Florida public is paying attention and yes, they don't like what's happening, but that doesn't necessarily translate into votes against Ron DeSantis.
And that's what's so troubling about all these poll numbers, because you have too many idiots across the country, honestly, who look at a politician, say, I hate what you're doing, but by God, you got an R next to your name. So I'm going to vote for you anyway because it's better than voting for somebody with a D. And then we end up in this endless cycle of bad government that everybody and moans about, but nobody actually wants to take the step to vote these people out. Honestly, we see it on the Democratic side too. This tribalism is what keeps bad politics and bad politicians winning re-election. People are too scared to make the leap. They're too scared to vote in the primary to get somebody else up there. So again, we end up with this endless cycle of bad politics, bad politicians, and people constantly complaining, even though they are the ones who keep doing this to themselves. If the Democrats running against Ron DeSantis had sense right now, and I'm not saying they don't, I'm just saying, I want to start seeing some of this, start running ads, start attacking him. I want to see it on my TV.
Because honestly you can't just sit back and say, ooh, let's watch him implode. No, you have to aid the implosion.
