After losing to one time aide turned rival Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram in the 2021 West Bengal State Assembly Elections, Mamata Banerjee is contesting in the bypolls from her bastion Bhawanipur. The bypolls are crucial for Mamata as they would determine whether she can retain her Chief Ministerial position, given the fact that some one who has not been elected into the state assembly cannot hold the CM's post for more than 6 months.
Mamata Banerjee lives in Bhawanipur and has won multiple elections from the constituency over the past decade. She has been pitted against Priyanka Tibrewal of the BJP, who although is from Bhawanipur, is a fairly new name.
