Midnapur (West Bengal), August 07 (ANI): Situated in the Midnapur district of West Bengal, the shrine of Sufi Saint Hazrat Syed Shah Deoan Raji has served as a cynosure of communal harmony for generations which is thronged by a large number of devotees every day from across the nation, irrespective of their religion. The shrine was built around 500 years ago during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. According to a story, Syed Shah Deoan Raji threw a sandalwood stick from which he was brushing his teeth from which a Sandal tree grew. It is from that day that the Saint got the nickname of Chandan Baba. Every year, hundreds of devotees visit the shrine at the time of Bakrid when the Urs of the saint is also celebrated. Since ages, the Sufi Saints like Syed Shah Deoan Raji have propagated the message of spiritualism and harmony in our country and their teachings are still playing a significant role in strengthening the thread of secularism.
