Climate debate has seen 'lots of people making commitments' and still using fossil fuels

Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Keith Pitt says he has "great confidence" in the future of Australian coal.

“There are countries who are not going to throw away their brand new generation equipment which they’ve just installed or in the process of installing,” he told Sky News Australia.

Mr Pitt said the equipment had the capability to last for decades and had “complete confidence” in the coal sector and its use in the future.

“In this debate, there’s been a lot of people who make commitments, who sign pieces of paper but the reality is Australia has reduced its emissions by 20 per cent, that is significant compared to many other nations around the world, even better than New Zealand,” he said.
