Testing the lightest (and weirdest) bicycle spokes you can buy

Berd wheels come with Berd spokes, and they're super weird. The spokes are made out of polyethylene, which is similar to polypropylene or nylon. It's like a string or rope. By tensioning all of them, the wheel holds its shape. Berd claims to have worked out all the problems with durability that you might expect, but today we test that!

This was a fun test, and I'm definitely leaving these wheels on my hardtail. The feeling of the wheels is nothing like your standard carbon wheel, or even a tuned carbon wheel like the Crankbrothers Synthesis. The spokes damp vibrations, but the wheel as a whole is still stiff and responsive, so the combination makes for a real nice ride.

We'll find out long term if these can stand the test of time. Berd sent me the wheels, and I promised them an honest review. I think they got off pretty easy today, but if these wheels break you guys will be the first to know. I like them so far!
