Saturday evening tropical update: System could form in Gulf

A system that could form in the Gulf of Mexico could affect us by the end of the week. The question is how strong it could get.

LARRY
Larry continues to gain strength over the warm Atlantic Ocean. With little to no wind shear and no land interaction, it will hold on to its hurricane strength for a few days. The good news is that it's a long way from land and the latest forecast track keeps it away from the mainland as of now. It's still to early to be sure that it will stay away but long-range models keeps it over the Atlantic eventually turning to the north. Bermuda and the east coast will keep a close eye on Larry, but long-term it is not a imminent threat to the Gulf.

INVEST 91
Invest 91-L is a broad low pressure area with a few showers and storms over Yucatan.

Models show this disturbance drifting into the Gulf and possibly heading near or just east of our area midweek. They also keep it quite weak, either an undeveloped system or at most a tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center gives it a low chance of development in the next five days.

There will be dry air plus wind shear in the Gulf this week, so it's not an ideal environment for tropical development, but we'll watch it. Right now we're mainly expecting it to be a rainmaker for us Tuesday and especially Wednesday with up to 3 or so inches of rain possible. We'll track it closely and will keep you updated.
