Rural health system facing 'chronic' problems

Getting regional health and hospitals back up to standard is a "chronic problem," according to Minister for Regional Health David Gillespie.

"We have got long term solution coming through the pipeline," he told Sky News host Chris Smith.

"But to deliver a doctor through a full training program before she or he can hang their shingle independently takes about 10 years, or 12 years.

"Because some of them now have to do three degrees ... they finish when they're about 35."
