Attorney Tom Olsen: I'm really pleasantly surprised about how many people bring up the topic of, "Well, how do I choose which of my kids get my personal property, my coin collection or my guns and my car?" is because that really apparently is not weighing on people's minds, but it's on people's minds. We tell them, "We got a great, simple solution for you, and that is that Florida statutes allows you to make reference in your will to a separate handwritten list disposing of personal property, things like China, coin collections, guns, cars. After you sign your will or trust with us, you can go home and at your convenience, you can handwrite these items of personal property and which child they go to."
Attorney Chris Merrill: Exactly. I often now I'm telling clients though to take pictures, so they can take pictures of these items, they can print that out, and then they can put it in this separate section in the notebook that we give them. That's what really helps people to be even more organized. We're giving them a place and a direction, how to do it, but once again, we're keeping it simple.
