Many riddles related to the Chernobyl catastrophe of April 26, 1986, remain unexplained today. Professor Georges Lochak, president of the Louis de Broglie Foundation, a French foundation for basic research in physics, discusses some of these.

The explosion of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the former Soviet Union caused the emission of several tons of radioactive matter into the atmosphere. If there had been a nuclear explosion, the consequences would have been much worse.
