Thursdays with NAMI - Ashish George- Aug 5, 2021 -South Asian, Not Perfect, & Totally Fine With That

Ashish was born in southern India and grew up in Greensboro. Today he is NAMI North Carolina’s Director of Public Policy, where we appreciate his intelligence and wicked sense of humor. His other title is PAD Specialist, as he teaches others how to complete PADs or Psychiatric Advance Directives. Ashish relates to NAMI members in part because he is no stranger to depression. Growing up he felt the pressure of sky-high expectations that many South Asians live with. The goal was perfection. When he thought about becoming an attorney as his parents preferred, he felt dread. His teenage and college years were excruciatingly lonely.

Join us to hear his journey, which took him to India, Greensboro, Boston/Harvard, and now Raleigh. Along with his story, he will discuss his work with Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADs) and discuss important policy priorities for mental health in 2021 and give tips about how you can fight for them.
Thursdays with NAMI is held virtually every Thursday from 7:00-8:30pm. It is free of charge. Go to www.naminc.org and search "Thursdays" for more information and to register.
